Thank You, Thank You! The Virtue Of Thankfulness.

.
Hello everyone, and thank you for reading "Holly Cow's World."  Holly is taking the week off to tend to some personal responsibilities on the dairy farm, so she has asked me to fill in on her weekly blog.   My name is Oliver Duck, I'm one of Holly's closest friends at Holly Farms Dairy.  Many of you probably know me from my numerous appearances with Holly over at Dan Radcliffe's Zazzle Shop.  I'm also the secretary and typist for this blog, so I don't think it's going to be too hard for me to fill in this week if I do say so myself.  I've seen what Holly does, this is a piece of cake.

So...  what now?

Oh yes, a topic of conversation for the blog.  Holly usually writes about Virtues.  I know all about those.

Okay, I know nothing about those...

...and after seventeen hours of research, I have finally figured out what "Virtues" are (hey, seventeen hours is not bad considering I'm a duck, you know!)  Well, I'm going to focus on the Virtue Of "Thankfulness".  Yep, that'll work.  I'm thankful I don't write this blog every week!

Thankfulness:  A warm friendly feeling of gratitude.

The 13th century Neoplatonist, Eckhart von Hochheim (also known as "Meister Eckhardt") once said, "If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough."

That's pretty deep stuff for a duck like me to understand...  I'm thankful for so many things...  Good friends and the fun I have with them, just to name a couple.  So, with that in mind, here's a small collection of items that express "Thankfulness".  As Holly would say, ENJOY!

Well friends, That's all for this week's entry.  I'm tired! I really don't know how Holly does this every week...  But I'm thankful for having the opportunity to help out.  I hope I didn't make too much of a mess of the blog for when Holly gets back next week.

So until next week, this is Oliver Duck, for Holly Cow, saying thank you for reading "Holly Cow's World!"

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha! Humor!

Time once again for another week's installment from the World Of Holly Cow.
This week, because April Fool's Day is April 1st, we are going to talk about the Virtue that is "Humor".  Yes, Humor is considered a Virtue.

 Definition Of Humor:
The ability to perceive, enjoy, or express what is amusing, comical, incongruous, or absurd.

I like to think I have a good sense of humor.  I think it's important to have a good sense of humor.  Albert Einstein, a pretty smart person as far as people go, has been quoted as saying "Humor is more important than knowledge."  I don't know what he laughed about back in his day, except maybe his hair, but I'll bet he had a good sense of humor.

So this week, we're all about HUMOR!

A salesman is lost in a rural area and stops at a farm to get directions. As he is talking to the farmer he notices a pig with a wooden leg. "How did the pig get a wooden leg?", he asks .
"Well", says the farmer, "that is a very special pig. One night not too long ago we had a fire start in the barn. Well, sir, that pig set up a great squealing that woke everyone, and by the time we got there he had herded all the other animals out of the barn and saved every one of them."
"And that was when he hurt his leg?" asked the salesman.
"Oh no" says the farmer. "He was fine after that. Though a while later I was in the woods out back and a bear attacked me. Well, sir, that pig was near by and he came running and set on that bear and chased him off. Saved me for sure."
"So the bear injured his leg then," says the salesman.
"Oh no. He came away without a scratch from that. Though a few days later my tractor turned over in a ditch and I was knocked unconscious. Well, that pig dove into the ditch and pulled me out before I drowned."
"So he hurt his leg then?" asks the salesman.
"Oh no," says the farmer.
"So how did he get the wooden leg?" the salesman asks.
"Well", said the farmer, "When you have a pig like that, you don't want to eat him all at once."

A duck walks into a restaurant and asks the owner, "Do you have any duck food?"  The owner says "No" and the duck leaves.  The next day, the same duck walks into the same restaurant and asks the owner, "Do you have any duck food?"  Again the owner says no, and again the duck leaves.  The NEXT day, the very same duck walks into the very same restaurant and asks the owner, "Do you have any duck food?"  This time, the owner tells the duck, "Look, I told you I don't have any duck food.  If you come back in here asking me for duck food again, I'm going to glue your beak shut!  Now leave!"  So the next day, the duck goes back to the same restaurant  and asks the owner, "Do you have any glue?"  The owner says, "Glue?  No, I don't have any glue!"  "Well, then," says the duck, "Do you have any duck food?"

"Goodnight, Holly!"  (*Giggle!*  Snort!  Ha Ha Ha!)
Well, folks, that's all for this week's silly installment of Holly Cow's World.  Hope you enjoyed it.  Oh, I'm also very sad and sorry to announce, this will be the last Holly Cow blog, I'm quitting.  Thank you for reading.

See you next week!  ("Giggle!*)

To The Rescue! Animal Adoption

Hello animal lovers!  I assume all of you out there reading my blog are animal lovers.  After all, I'm a cow, and you all love ME, right?  Of course you do.  This week's blog is all about animals.  Specifically, animals in need of a good home.

My good friend Dan Radcliffe (you all know him, don't you?) recently rescued and adopted a couple of guinea pigs.  It's not often you come across stray guinea pigs, but that's what happened.  Dan went out to his mailbox last week after dinner.  On his way back into the house, he noticed something moving around in the storm drain next to his house.  It was, of all things, a guinea pig!  Well, knowing that guinea pigs are not wild animals roaming freely around the big city, he went after it.  Only to find, as the poor critter ran to the back of the house behind a fence, there was not just the one, but two guinea pigs back there!  After some careful manipulation by Dan and his wife Denise and daughter Heather, they managed to rescue both of the guinea pigs and get them into a pet carrier.  After receiving a clean bill of health from the local guinea pig vet, the two little critters are living comfortably in Dan and Denise's home.

Some person, for whatever reason, simply dropped these poor defenseless creatures off in a drainage ditch.  There are big dogs, cats, owls, hawks, even a fox or two out there.  These poor animals would not have lasted one night out there.  If whoever it was that abandoned these animals didn't want to care for them anymore, or couldn't care for them, there were other ways to deal with the situation...  it makes my heart hurt knowing what happened, and what could have happened.

My friends Walter and Ronald, (the twin pig brothers who live on the farm with me), have never seen guinea pigs before, but they are certain that these are not really pigs.  I tried, but I couldn't explain it to them...

Anyhow, the guinea pigs are safe now, and in a good home.  Which leads me up to this week's features:  Animal items, of course!

Here are a few items from my animal loving friends out there.  ENJOY!

A couple of final pictures -- These are Dan and Denise's cats, "Marmalade" and "Whiskers".  Marmalade is a rescue cat they adopted about four years ago.  Whiskers walked into their house one day about fifteen years ago, a mere kitten, and decided she lived there.

So friends, if you are able, by all means adopt an animal in need.  There are millions of animals out there who need your love and care.  Check with your local animal shelter, pet store, veterinarian or, if you're in the right place at the right time, storm drain next to your house.

Until next week, this is Holly Cow, Love to you all, and thanks for reading my blog!

Love, Love, Love

John Lennon once said, "Love is the flower you've got to let grow".

Hello once again from the wonderful world of Holly Cow.  This week's entry is all about LOVE.  What is love?  To define love is a task best left to philosophers, heavy thinkers, and people with more life experience than I have.   A quote from Paramahansa Yogananda (a pioneer of modern Yoga) : "To describe love is very difficult, for the same reason that words cannot fully describe the flavor of an orange. You have to taste the fruit to know its flavor. So with love."

Trying to define love is like trying to catch sunshine in a jar.  Everyone has their own interpretations of love and their own understanding of what love is.  Acceptance, patience, attraction...  Love is many things to many people, but it is what it is...  I'm just a simple cow, I don't have all of the answers to a question like "What Is Love?" so I'm not going to try to define it.  But I know it's a good thing.

A lot of my friends have managed to capture thoughts and images that, in their own unique way, help give definition and meaning to "love".  Here are some of my favorite examples of "LOVE" designs by some of my favorite people.  I love you all!

Play With Your Food!

Hello Followers Of All Things Holly Cow!  I know it's not Thursday and I usually post on my blog on Thursdays, but I just couldn't wait to share these NEW designs with you, so today you get an extra helping of Holly Cow's World!

Dan has been busy over at his Zazzle Shop adding a new category to the store.  "Fun Fruit" is the working category title, but I REALLy am trying to talk him into calling it "Play With Your Food" because I think it's funnier.  I want opinions.  The designs are colorful cartoon fruits and berries, all playful and fun and funny.  I want to see all kinds of cartoon food in this category, so a title change is needed.  Tell me what you think!

Here are some examples of the designs in the "Fun Fruit" (soon to be renamed!) category:

Well friends, as always, I appreciate your support of my blog.  Thak you for reading it, and thank you for your friendship!
(NEW post on Thursday -- See you then!)
