Stay Curious.

Hello once again from the wonderful world of Holly Cow. For those of you who were wondering why I didn't post a blog last week, I took last week off from blogging to catch up on some reading and to help my little sister Belle study for her final exams. She's going to do fine. We were talking about learning and the importance of learning. She's a good student and enjoys learning, but she tends to get distracted sometimes. In some ways, I think that's not such a bad thing. She's very curious about the world.

There's an old saying about curiosity, I'm sure you've all heard: "Curiosity Killed The Cat."
I completey disagree. In my humble opinion, that old saying should be: "Lack Of Curiosity Bored The Cat To Death."

Curiosity, for those of you who don't know, is considered a Virtue. I'm big on Virtues, as those of you who follow this blog are keenly aware by now.

Curiosity: A desire to find out and know things.

Walter and Ronald were very curious this week. We have a lovely lake on the farm, and we all love the warm summer months when we can go swimming. We were splashing around in the lake early last week, and Walter and Ronald were wondering how much water is actually in our lake. They debated on a way to find out, but eventually decided they needed to weigh the water. ALL of the water. They took a milk bucket from the barn, dragged it down to the lake, filled it with water, dragged it all the way back to the barn, weighed it, and took it back to the lake.
"Now we know how much ONE bucket of water weighs," said Walter.
"Right. We just need to know how many buckets of water are in the lake, and do the math," answered Ronald.
...so, the two of them systematically started to fill bucket after bucket with water from the lake, in an effort to see how many buckets of water were in the lake. As you can guess, they ran out of buckets. The good people who work on the farm were a bit unhappy with the pigs when they went to look for all of the milk buckets at milking time,,,
We stil have no idea how much water is in the lake...

So, curiosity can sometimes lead to some "unexpected" results, but overall, curiosity is a good trait. It leads to learning, exploring, adventure, and fun.

And with that in mind, here are some examples of curiosity inspired designs, teaching designs, reading designs, and designs that celebrate learning. Stay Curious!

Well, friends, thank you all for reading this week's blog.  I need to finish up a book I'm in the middle of, so, until next week, this is your friendly neighborhood cow, Holly, saying goodbye for now.

Summer Nights

Hello once again from "Holly Cow's World."  I've had a busy week on the farm.  My little sister Belle has been worried about school, her final exams are swiftly approaching as the end of the school year is creeping up and the summer is about to begin.  She's a good student, just not very sure of herself.  I've been helping her study (aren't I a nice big sister?) and she's going to do just fine.  Then we have the whole summer to relax a bit, unwind, and ENJOY!

The summer months are fast approaching.  Here at Holly Farms Dairy we're getting ready for the hot summer days.  Mostly by appreciating the cooler summer nights!

So, with that in mind, here are some cool nighttime products by some hot designers.

May All Your Wishes Come True stamp

Well, friends, that's all for this week's installment of "Holly Cow's World".  Mornings come early on the farm, so I'm going to call it a day.  Thank you for looking.  Good Night!

Birthday Blog Blathering

Hello everyone, and thank you for reading "Holly Cow's World". I'm back to the blog after taking a week off to help out with some additional duties on the farm. My good friend Oliver Duck graciously stepped up and filled in for me last week as the guest writer for the blog. I appreciate all of your kind comments on his hard work. And I want to thank him personally for filling in. Thank You, Oliver!

You may be wondering why I wasn't able to take the time to write the blog last week... Well, it all has to do with my older brother, Terry Bull. You see, Friday, April 1st, was Terry's birthday. We had a huge surprise party over at "Holly Farms Dairy" for him.

Long story short, Terry got into a lot of mischief on the farm and sort of... well... made a complete disaster of the place! The good people who run the farm were not pleased, and since I was responsible for organizing the party and inviting my brother to the farm...

Now, don't misunderstand me, my brother is a great guy.  He just gets a little carried away sometimes, and he's not exactly what you would call graceful.  He was so excited about the birthday party that he simply couldn't control himself.  You know the old saying about a bull in a china shop?  Yeah, that was him.

Birthdays can be stressful sometimes, especially the "big ones".  The parties and planning (and cleanup!) can be a lot of work, but usually birthdays are a lot of fun and a great way to show someone how much you appreciate the fact they're part of your life.

And with that in mind, here are some fun, funny, beautiful, and fantastic birthday items from a few friends of mine.  ENJOY!

So if there's a birthday coming up for someone you care about, you might want to consider one of these fantastic items from one of these fantastic people.  Or go browse their shops and see what else is there.  Lots of fun cards, gifts and ideas to make the birthday special.

Oh, and if you have a brother like mine, maybe "surprise" parties aren't such a good idea...

Until next week, this is Holly saying thanks for reading "Holly Cow's World".  Have a wonderful week!

...Oh, by the way, the farm is back to normal.

Thank You, Thank You! The Virtue Of Thankfulness.

.
Hello everyone, and thank you for reading "Holly Cow's World."  Holly is taking the week off to tend to some personal responsibilities on the dairy farm, so she has asked me to fill in on her weekly blog.   My name is Oliver Duck, I'm one of Holly's closest friends at Holly Farms Dairy.  Many of you probably know me from my numerous appearances with Holly over at Dan Radcliffe's Zazzle Shop.  I'm also the secretary and typist for this blog, so I don't think it's going to be too hard for me to fill in this week if I do say so myself.  I've seen what Holly does, this is a piece of cake.

So...  what now?

Oh yes, a topic of conversation for the blog.  Holly usually writes about Virtues.  I know all about those.

Okay, I know nothing about those...

...and after seventeen hours of research, I have finally figured out what "Virtues" are (hey, seventeen hours is not bad considering I'm a duck, you know!)  Well, I'm going to focus on the Virtue Of "Thankfulness".  Yep, that'll work.  I'm thankful I don't write this blog every week!

Thankfulness:  A warm friendly feeling of gratitude.

The 13th century Neoplatonist, Eckhart von Hochheim (also known as "Meister Eckhardt") once said, "If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough."

That's pretty deep stuff for a duck like me to understand...  I'm thankful for so many things...  Good friends and the fun I have with them, just to name a couple.  So, with that in mind, here's a small collection of items that express "Thankfulness".  As Holly would say, ENJOY!

Well friends, That's all for this week's entry.  I'm tired! I really don't know how Holly does this every week...  But I'm thankful for having the opportunity to help out.  I hope I didn't make too much of a mess of the blog for when Holly gets back next week.

So until next week, this is Oliver Duck, for Holly Cow, saying thank you for reading "Holly Cow's World!"

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha! Humor!

Time once again for another week's installment from the World Of Holly Cow.
This week, because April Fool's Day is April 1st, we are going to talk about the Virtue that is "Humor".  Yes, Humor is considered a Virtue.

 Definition Of Humor:
The ability to perceive, enjoy, or express what is amusing, comical, incongruous, or absurd.

I like to think I have a good sense of humor.  I think it's important to have a good sense of humor.  Albert Einstein, a pretty smart person as far as people go, has been quoted as saying "Humor is more important than knowledge."  I don't know what he laughed about back in his day, except maybe his hair, but I'll bet he had a good sense of humor.

So this week, we're all about HUMOR!

A salesman is lost in a rural area and stops at a farm to get directions. As he is talking to the farmer he notices a pig with a wooden leg. "How did the pig get a wooden leg?", he asks .
"Well", says the farmer, "that is a very special pig. One night not too long ago we had a fire start in the barn. Well, sir, that pig set up a great squealing that woke everyone, and by the time we got there he had herded all the other animals out of the barn and saved every one of them."
"And that was when he hurt his leg?" asked the salesman.
"Oh no" says the farmer. "He was fine after that. Though a while later I was in the woods out back and a bear attacked me. Well, sir, that pig was near by and he came running and set on that bear and chased him off. Saved me for sure."
"So the bear injured his leg then," says the salesman.
"Oh no. He came away without a scratch from that. Though a few days later my tractor turned over in a ditch and I was knocked unconscious. Well, that pig dove into the ditch and pulled me out before I drowned."
"So he hurt his leg then?" asks the salesman.
"Oh no," says the farmer.
"So how did he get the wooden leg?" the salesman asks.
"Well", said the farmer, "When you have a pig like that, you don't want to eat him all at once."

A duck walks into a restaurant and asks the owner, "Do you have any duck food?"  The owner says "No" and the duck leaves.  The next day, the same duck walks into the same restaurant and asks the owner, "Do you have any duck food?"  Again the owner says no, and again the duck leaves.  The NEXT day, the very same duck walks into the very same restaurant and asks the owner, "Do you have any duck food?"  This time, the owner tells the duck, "Look, I told you I don't have any duck food.  If you come back in here asking me for duck food again, I'm going to glue your beak shut!  Now leave!"  So the next day, the duck goes back to the same restaurant  and asks the owner, "Do you have any glue?"  The owner says, "Glue?  No, I don't have any glue!"  "Well, then," says the duck, "Do you have any duck food?"

"Goodnight, Holly!"  (*Giggle!*  Snort!  Ha Ha Ha!)
Well, folks, that's all for this week's silly installment of Holly Cow's World.  Hope you enjoyed it.  Oh, I'm also very sad and sorry to announce, this will be the last Holly Cow blog, I'm quitting.  Thank you for reading.
APRIL FOOL!
See you next week!  ("Giggle!*)
