Hello, and welcome once again to another installment of my world-famous fantastically astonishingly amazing blog. Life has been busy busy busy for me the past couple of weeks. The weather here at Holly Farms Dairy has been incredibly hot and dry, and unfortunately evryone has been reacting in a very unprofessional manner because of it.
Ronald Pig has been uncooperative and unwilling to do his part on the farm, and his brother Walter has been really angry with him about it, as Walter has been doing most of his brother's work.
My little sister Belle has been enjoying the summer months off of school, but she too has been playing a little more than working, and some of her chores are not getting accomplished. Of course, yours truly, being the amazing big sister that I am, have graciously been covering for her, while gently persuading her to get her chores done.
It makes me sad when my friends aren't cooperating and helping. Really that's not like them. I blame the heat.I'm hoping that things will settle down a bit and the routines will return to normal around the farm. A few nice days of cool rain might help, but there's none in sight. So for now, we're trying as best we can to maintain business as usual.
And with that in mind, this week's blog is all about business. Business cards, that is. And here are a few really great designs from some really great friends of mine. These cute, funny, and fantastic cards are sure to get your business noticed. ENJOY!
So friends, with any luck we'll see a breakin this hot, dry weather and tempers will settle down a bit and we'll be able to get on with the dairy business as usual. I'll keep you posted.

Red, White and Blue! Celebrate America!

Hello once again from the wonderful world of Holly Cow! Another very busy week on the farm. The summer weather is here early, and it's making some of the work a bit difficult. It's been hot and dry, but we're all trying to find ways to cool off and enjoy ourselves.
My sister Belle finished her last day of the school year this week and is ready for a much needed and well deserved summer vacation. She was worried about passing all of her final exams, but she's a smart young lady and she did great. Passed everything with flying colors.
Now we're all ready for some summer fun. The July 4th Holiday is next month, and we're all getting ready for the fireworks and festivities. Living outside of San Antonio, Texas, we're close enough to all of the military bases that we can usually see a lot of fireworks in every direction on the Fourth. San Antonio is a big military town, and we're proud to support their efforts. They sacrifice a lot, some sacrifice all, and they need and deserve our support. Remember them when you celebrate this Independence Day.
And with that thought in mind, here are some really great designs with an American theme, a real Red, White and Blue celebration. Take a look, support these talented designers, and show your American Pride this July 4th!

Be A Responsible Pet Owner

Hi there! Holly Cow here. Thank you once again for reading my blog. This week's blog entry is going to be a little different than most. I was asked by my good friend Dan Radcliffe if he could use this blog forum to express some very important thoughts and share some information. Once he told me what he wanted to say, I naturally said yes. So, without any further moo... er, further ado, here's Dan.
Thank you Holly. For those of you who don't know me, I'm a very close personal friend of Holly Cow. I've known her all her life.
I would like to take this opportunity to jump up on a soapbox and share a few thoughts with everyone concerning responsible pet ownership. I live in San Antonio, Texas. It's a busy city, with lots and lots of people. Which means lots and lots of cars and traffic. It also means lots and lots of stray dogs and cats. Cars and stray animals are not a good mix. Every day, yes every single day, as I drive through the city, I see at least one dog or cat who didn't make it across traffic. Some were strays, I'm sure, and some were probably some one's pets.
Friends, we simply have no shortage of dogs and cats in this country. If you own a dog or a cat, please please please take the responsibility seriously. Keep your animals indoors, or at the very least on a leash when outdoors. And by all means, have your pets spayed or neutered. Animal overpopulation is a serious problem. There is no excuse for not having your pet spayed or neutered. If you take on the responsibility of pet ownership, you are responsible for every aspect of that animal's health and well-being. If you can't afford the procedure, there are lots of options. Here's one in San Antonio: The Spay-Neuter Assistance Program offers low-cost spay and neuter procedures for those who qualify. If you're not in San Antonio, check with your local animal shelters, the ASPCA or the Humane Society for options. Or ask your vet if there are any affordable options they can offer. A simple lack of funds is not an acceptable excuse for ignoring this responsibility. If you took on the responsibility of owning the pet, this is part of the responsibility.
I've heard other excuses as to why people won't get their pets spayed or neutered. These are from people who are misinformed. They think the animals are happier if they're not fixed (not true) or that they're depriving the animal of something by having them fixed (also not true) and a list of other excuses, none of them based on facts. Here are a couple of links to help explain the truth behind the myths regarding spaying and neutering your pets:

The Virtue Of Grace
Hello once again from Holly Cow's World. This week's blog entry is a bit late, because this should have been LAST week's blog entry. I'm sorry I was just too busy last week to post anything, so I'd like to post this week's entry a bit early to try to make up for it.

Stay Curious.
Hello once again from the wonderful world of Holly Cow. For those of you who were wondering why I didn't post a blog last week, I took last week off from blogging to catch up on some reading and to help my little sister Belle study for her final exams. She's going to do fine. We were talking about learning and the importance of learning. She's a good student and enjoys learning, but she tends to get distracted sometimes. In some ways, I think that's not such a bad thing. She's very curious about the world.
There's an old saying about curiosity, I'm sure you've all heard: "Curiosity Killed The Cat."
I completey disagree. In my humble opinion, that old saying should be: "Lack Of Curiosity Bored The Cat To Death."
Curiosity, for those of you who don't know, is considered a Virtue. I'm big on Virtues, as those of you who follow this blog are keenly aware by now.
Curiosity: A desire to find out and know things.
Walter and Ronald were very curious this week. We have a lovely lake on the farm, and we all love the warm summer months when we can go swimming. We were splashing around in the lake early last week, and Walter and Ronald were wondering how much water is actually in our lake. They debated on a way to find out, but eventually decided they needed to weigh the water. ALL of the water. They took a milk bucket from the barn, dragged it down to the lake, filled it with water, dragged it all the way back to the barn, weighed it, and took it back to the lake.
"Now we know how much ONE bucket of water weighs," said Walter.
"Right. We just need to know how many buckets of water are in the lake, and do the math," answered Ronald.
...so, the two of them systematically started to fill bucket after bucket with water from the lake, in an effort to see how many buckets of water were in the lake. As you can guess, they ran out of buckets. The good people who work on the farm were a bit unhappy with the pigs when they went to look for all of the milk buckets at milking time,,,
We stil have no idea how much water is in the lake...
So, curiosity can sometimes lead to some "unexpected" results, but overall, curiosity is a good trait. It leads to learning, exploring, adventure, and fun.
And with that in mind, here are some examples of curiosity inspired designs, teaching designs, reading designs, and designs that celebrate learning. Stay Curious!

Summer Nights
Hello once again from "Holly Cow's World." I've had a busy week on the farm. My little sister Belle has been worried about school, her final exams are swiftly approaching as the end of the school year is creeping up and the summer is about to begin. She's a good student, just not very sure of herself. I've been helping her study (aren't I a nice big sister?) and she's going to do just fine. Then we have the whole summer to relax a bit, unwind, and ENJOY!
The summer months are fast approaching. Here at Holly Farms Dairy we're getting ready for the hot summer days. Mostly by appreciating the cooler summer nights!
